Suitcase Donation

Before I became the 2007-08 MOMS Club President, the previous President, Betsy & her board put together a wonderful cookbook titled, "Buns in the Oven and Other Favorite Recipes." With the profit of $1200 from 300 cookbooks sold, as the new President, I was honored to be able to help decide where this money would go.
For the past few years the MOMS Club have done various service projects through Kokua Ohana, a non-profit public foundation who helps Hawaiian foster care children. Kokua Ohana informed us of their current project, collecting travel suitcases for their children. After learning that many foster care children go from house to house with their personal belonging in garbage bags, it was not a difficult decision to decide where our cookbook profits should go. With the amazing skill and speed, my board members, Sasha, Lisa, Cindy, and Merri scoped out every Ross store on Oahu and purchased 41 travel suitcases.

These suitcases were then presented at the Hawaii State Capital on National Adoption Day. At the same time Kamehameha Schools Class of 2009 also presented Kokua Ohana with slippers, clothing, and other suitcase fillers. Two News channels were there and featured a small clip of our donations and we had our little fame on TV for a few seconds. The ultimate highlight for me was being able to be part of this amazing donation to a needy group of children. This felt wonderful inside and out! Thank you MOMS Club and Kokua Ohana for letting me be part of this experience.
