I promised myself two things before I reached 25: a motorcycle and a pitbull. Instead, before I reached 23 I had a wife and my son, Rudy. When I tell people I got married at such a young age, people often think of me in three different ways: 1) I was crazy. Kids shouldn't be getting married and starting families before everything in life is settled. Or, 2) We'll be watching to see when you get divorced. Finally, 3) Mormons just do things like this. I have three reasons of my own as to why life is more fun with my wife and kids.
1) I'll never be alone again. Today, no matter where I go I see to things that tell me what I'm doing is absolutely right. First, kids and adults talking on cellphones or text messaging each other non-stop. No matter where they are (driving, riding their bike, sitting at their desk, heck, even kayaking), they are always in contact. That tells me they need someone to talk to or be close to. Well, I have my wife and 3 kids to thank for saving so much "talk time."
2) Watching kids grow. You ever been to a family party where you see relatives for the first time in about 5-10years? And it seems like the first thing they react to is the size of your body? Well, that's not what I'm talking about. Observing the grow of my children's minds and emotions, as well, as their bodies give me an understanding on life very few people have experienced outside of parenthood. Sculptors, surfboard shapers, custom car designers, and architects that are intimate with their work probably understand what it's like to create something and watch it grow. But being a daddy is unlike any other thing on earth.
3. I always have somewhere to go. Sure, single people have stuff to do. But after awhile everything is the same. Same party, same music, same drinks, same hook ups, same conversations, same...lame! But as a husband, dates are much more special and meaningful. As a daddy, there are always more birthday parties, always other hot moms and wives (and you envy the husbands for nabbing them), there a doctor appointments, playground injuries, the list goes on and on. My life has never been busier. And I can't wait for my kids to start sports and school plays.
