It has been my experience that surfing and family go hand in hand. My father took us surfing, his dad took him surfing and I will continue to encourage my children to surf as they grow up. Although the sport has hit mainstream popularity, the pure essence of the sport can be found outside of the surf contests; outside of the magazines and posters; outside of the reality t.v. shows; outside of the name brand clothing lines; and definitely outside of the surf shops. You can find the true essence of surfing in the homes of those who truly surf. Because surfing is not something that ends once you leave the beach. It is something that can be felt throughout the persons life...even into the home.
